When we think #hairgoals, we think of long, silky smooth hair that sways gently in the wind.
Because of this, we tend to pay a great deal of attention to the health and appearance of our hair with serums, essences and treatments galore to keep our locks soft and shining. While this is of course important, we oftentimes fail to pay attention to the most important player in the overall health of our hair: the scalp.
At Jungle Botanics, we believe that having a strong base works as the foundation of a good final product, which is why each of our products work to nurture the skin and body back to its natural, prime state of health.

1. The scalp needs exfoliation too.
The scalp is a largely neglected portion of our body. Just like we exfoliate the visible skin on our face and body, regular exfoliation is needed for the scalp to promote skin cell regeneration and increase the overall turnover rate for a happy, healthy scalp.
This might sound frightening, and you might be thinking, “Does this mean we have to use a scrub on our heads?” Yes and no.
Look for shampoos that contain natural exfoliants like white willow extract and salicylic acid, such as the Forest Leaves Cooling Shampoo, which will keep the scalp feeling light and fresh by removing unnecessary remaining impurities.
2. Moisturize, moisturize!
Sometimes, the scalp needs a little bit of conditioner too.
A lot of you might be appalled by the thought of applying conditioner or treatment to the roots in fear of clogging pores or weighing down the hair, but just like we moisturize our face, the scalp benefits from this extra moisture.
Use noncomedogenic products like the Forest Leaves Warming Treatment, which contains a blend of 10 nourishing essential oils that will not only soften the hair, but also keep the scalp healthy and hydrated.
3. Be picky with your shampoos.
Let’s face it, we’re sick of beauty snobs that try to tell us that the products we’re using aren’t the best out there, or try to put down certain products because of price range and name value.
But when selecting your shampoo, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Be a snob (but in a different way) and look at the full ingredient list. Don’t be afraid to question the need of fillers like silicone and phthalates that are a common ingredient in many shampoos, which only work to coat the hair with an extra layer of gunk that only makes it seem soft and shiny.
Take the initiative to seek out products that are natural and fully rely on these natural ingredients to cleanse and nourish the scalp.
You are what you eat. Making sure you are eating a well-balanced diet is key for the scalp to continue producing new and healthy cells. Treating your body right will ensure that it has the adequate supply of protein, omega 3s and more to keep your scalp healthy.
Also take initiative to see that your shampoo contains these necessary ingredients of health.
The inclusion of avocado oil in the Forest Leaves Cooling Shampoo makes it a great gentle everyday moisturizer for the scalp, with its high omega 3
5. Watch out for the sun.
While we might religiously apply sunscreen to our bodies, we unknowingly fail to protect the most vulnerable part of our bodies from harmful UV rays. Skin cancer often develops on the scalp, which is almost always directly exposed to the sun during our day-to-day activities.
Some ways to prevent UV damage that goes to the scalp is to wear caps when planning to be outside for long periods of time, or also consider applying a spray-on SPF product to the scalp.
However, the best method is to treat and prevent it from the root – literally.
The Forest Leaves Cooling Shampoo contains natural essential oils such as peach kernel oil, which soothes inflammation and turns back UV damage, sunflower seed oil for natural UV protection, and menthol, for a soothing, cooling touch to the scalp.
All in all, remember that a healthy scalp is the key to maintaining the soft and luscious locks you want.
